Mafang Village, Anning, Kunming, Yunnan Province, China
Age
Early Cambrian (Atdabanian)
Notes
Leanchoilia had long grasping appendages at the front. They aren't preserved in this specimen and they rarely are.
This is one of the more common arthropods of the Chengjiang Shales. From this site we know that there were many marine arthropods in the early Cambrian that weren't trilobites. No doubt this was true of later periods in the Paleozoic as well, but we rarely get the excellent soft body preservation that can show this directly.
